Children
in Kenya start school at the age of 6 and progress through
8 classes until the approximate leaving age of 14 years. At
this point they take a national, standardised examination,
the Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). However,
secondary education is not free and paying for the necessary
fees and equipment is way beyond the means of the vast majority
of local people.
Without
the help of the Langalanga Scholarship Fund this would be
the end of schooling for even those who are extremely able
– condemned to a life of unemployment and poverty and
unable to realise their potential or make a positive difference
to their family and community.
